Great Scuba Diving Destinations Around the World
Scuba diving is an activity that appeals to athletes, tourists, and more as an opportunity to see the world from a new perspective. For those willing to take the plunge, a cornucopia of underwater treasures lies in store. Here are a few of the most breathtaking and exhilarating destinations to explore in a scuba mask:
Great Barrier Reef, Australia
The world’s largest structure built by living organisms, the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia is enormous enough to be viewed from space. The best way to experience this vast and faceted ecosystem, though, is through scuba diving. Divers can explore the coral nooks and crannies along with the rare, endangered species that call the reef home.
Fiji Islands, South Pacific
Another polyp-built shrine, Fiji is dubbed the ‘Soft Coral Capital of the World’ for its colorful coral seascape. The crystal-clear water affords divers an opportunity to bask in the vastness of the ocean and marvel at sites typically only viewed in travel magazines.
Cozumel, Mexico
Avoid the Spring Break crowds, and opt to go diving later in the season; the Gulf Stream waters will still be warm. The Stream also allows divers to cover a lot of ground, so-to-speak, with less exertion, allowing divers to drift among the hoards of exotic fish.
Belize
The oceans of Belize boost some of the best preserved marine ecosystems in the world. These should be explored by the most daring divers, as they are populated by a variety of sharks.

Spring Produce: Seasonal Fruit and Veggie Highlights to Add to Your Menu
As spring begins, gardens are alive with new shoots. The spring fruit and vegetable season adds tons of exciting new options to your cooking. Here are some of the best fresh fruits and vegetables to consider cooking with this season.
Asparagus is one of the most eagerly anticipated new crops every spring. When picked fresh, it’s fragrant and delicious. Cooking it is incredibly simple – steam it, roast it or grill it. All it needs is a little salt, pepper and olive oil for its natural flavor to shine.
Garlic shoots are an unusual but remarkable spring harvest. Before the white garlic bulb that you are familiar with forms, the plant grows a large, green shoot, also called a “scape.” This has a flavor similar to the bulb but milder. It’s great for soups.
Spring is also the best time to harvest new potatoes. Although potatoes can stay in the ground through the summer and into the late fall, harvesting them early keeps the skin from setting, making for sweet, tender spuds that cook quickly and burst with flavor.
In terms of fruit, one of the best bounties every spring is the cherry harvest. Cherry fruit starts growing in the middle of the season, and should be eaten quickly after harvesting for the best flavor.

Party Up: Great Decorations You Can Make Yourself
If you’re throwing a party, you have a lot of things to think about: refreshments, music, the guest list and more. Sometimes decoration can get the short end of the stick, especially when budget is a concern. Thankfully, there are a number of affordable and awesome ways to decorate for a party that just take a little ingenuity. Here are some of our favorites.
It’s easy to make colorful and festive streamers out of rolls of tissue paper. By crimping complimentary colors together, you can make an attractive accent for a room that will get people in the partying mood.
Tissue paper can also be used to make attractive pom-poms that you can hang from the ceiling with fishing line or other cordage. They’re simple to make from squares of paper by folding them multiple times lengthwise, clipping the ends, fanning it out into a bowtie shape and fixing several together.
You can do a lot more with balloons than just let them float around aimlessly. For larger rooms, make garlands of balloons in complimentary colors, hang them along taut string and explore the possibilities. Purchasing a hand pump will let you inflate them at home and save money.
To add some visual appeal to standard votive candleholders, water down paint and loosely dab and scribble on the inside of the glass. As the light shine through, it will cast a rainbow spectrum of subtle tones on the party in progress.
For a fun ceiling decoration, cut a spiral shape out of colorful construction paper, and then pull down to make a wiggly, wavy streamer. Hang lots of them to make a party really sing.

Starting Out with Superfoods
You’ve probably heard of superfoods, foods rich in nutrients and antioxidants that offer a wide variety of health benefits. It can be tough to sort through the superfood-of-the-day being promoted by one media outlet or another, but here are some stalwarts with proven results:
Blueberries
These berries aren’t just tasty, they’re high in antioxidants, phytoflavinoids, potassium, and vitamin C, giving them anti-inflammatory and anticarcinogen properties. Enjoy them fresh or frozen in a smoothie or by themselves.
Green Tea
All tea is high in antioxidants, but only green tea contains ECGC, an antioxidant which has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Studies conducted in Japan have shown that men who regularly drink green tea have lower cholesterol than those who don’t.
Omega-3 Rich Fish
Wild salmon, mackerel, herring, and sardines and other fatty cold-water fish are the highest in Omega-3s, which help reduce arthritis inflammation and heart disease risk. These fish are also high in monounsaturated fats, which help reduce cholesterol.
Turmeric
This yellow spice used primarily in Indian cooking has been found to inhibit cancer cell growth, especially when combined with cruciferous vegetables like cabbage and broccoli.
Spinach
Popeye was right – this tasty green is high in protein and iron, rich in antioxidants that fight cancer and heart disease, and is one of the best sources of Vitamin A. For the most nutritional bang for your buck, eat spinach raw or lightly steamed.
